I was a former AT & T customer and when cingular bought AT & T they changed my plan. My plan changed from nights begining at 7 to 9. They say they can do that because it is a company change. In addition, have to call almost every month about charges that appear on my bill for services I dont even have. Downloading, text messaging. Customer Service is absolutely awful and cingular is expensive as compared to other plans. I will say the reception is good but watch your bill they are crooks!

I wanted to change my service from Nextel to Cingular (because they were the only other company I was able to receive signal while at home). I ordered a phone and service and was using it for 30 days. Before the 30 days was up, I was told that there was no tower in my area and was probably getting signal from another provider. At this point I was told they were going to cancel my service. Now Cingular is the biggest in the country...you would think someone would have told me all of this in advance. Even if Cingular did construct a tower in my area, I would never get them after all I went through.

I dropped Cingular service today. For almost 2 yrs, they were really good. About 4 months ago, I started having billing problems. A lot of calls were appearing on my bill that made no sense. Many of the calls were taken off the bill, but I noticed the usage I was being billed climbed higher and higher each month. We were billed for 103 calls that were "private" numbers, making them impossible to trace. Yesterday I called C/S and told the rep that the bill does not make sense. I told him that there are only 7 people that call us on our cell phone and 5 of them are Cingular users also. Our phone has NEVER rung 103 in a year, let alone in one month. These numbers were all billed for one minute each. It is AMAZING that my call overage for the month was 103 minutes! Got the picture?!?!?!These "mysterious" private numbers only began to appear 3-4 months ago. The rep I spoke with told me he can explain EVERYTHING. I told him if it doesn't make sense there must be a problem. For over one and 1/2 years, I kept my calling within the 450 rollover minutes and 5000 weekend minutes. Since my contract is up mid Feb 07, I believe Cingular had a plan to make money off me....and probably every other cingular customer near the end of their contract if they have not made extra cash off them! When I told the C/S rep that I don't beleive the charges are accurate, his reply, with MUCH sarcasm was, "Well, YOU just don't WANT to believe it"! I was outraged by his insolence. I asked his name, and with his HEAVY Indian accent, he said Smith, Joseph Smith. I asked to speak to his supervisor and he said NO! If his name is really Joseph Smith, then I am Mary Poppins! Cingular does not offer a direct number for complaints. I am SO glad to be out of my contract with them! They have cheated me systematically for 3-4 months! I believe they don't expect customers to really scrutinize their bill and will cheat as long as they can get away with it!

Cingular has been the worst service I have used for a cell phone company. I get dropped calls with almost EVERY call I make. It is difficult for people to hear me through the static. I have tried 4 different phones and none of them has made a difference. I called Cingular for assistance and received no help and they were rude. When I talked to them about the dropped calls, they wanted me to BUY a new phone. As I had already tried 4 phones, I didn't feel that it would help to pay another $200 for a new phone. I can not wait until my contract is up. I will be out of there so fast their heads will spin.

Technical Support, Not good. There people are unskilled, unknowledgable, rude, and generally not helpfull. I cancel if I didn't have a contract. been with (since 1988) Cellone, ATT and the C word. The don't even try
Robin United States/CA, KS/KS - hutchinson [Nov 24, 2006]
Received a notice from them 11/13/2006 that they would be dropping me from their "national plan" because 50% of our calls are routed through other cell phone company's service towers. So, while coverage was good, not many dropped calls, evidently they will no longer honor their "nation-wide coverage" plan. ALSO, cell phone number portability is a myth. We have to change our phone number, too, because other carriers will not allow us to keep our 619 area code because we are not there all the time. We live in CA, KS, WY, and travel a lot for business. So much for the portability act. So much for the nation-wide plan!!

I was with att for a long time and was very satisfied with the service that I recieived from them. When they merged with Cingular they shut down a couple of towers around me and cingular refused to do anything about it. I asked if they would let me out of my contract but they refused and told me that they would charge me to get out of the contract. Where do I go next now that my contract is up after almost twoyears of bad service.
Rebecca United States/Alabama/Madison [Oct 17, 2006]
Their customer service department is very poor. My experience with them has been nothing short of maddening. The coverage varies. My phone would be sitting on the coffee table and suddenly go into roam for no reason. I live right in the middle of the city! Found out recently that one of my phones they refused to let me keep when I upgraded ended up in the hands of a thug in the projects....using my number. My only conclusion is that someone in the office either gave away or sold my old phone. Either way my phone was re-activated in MY NAME and this thug was allowed to use my old phone while I paid for it. It took 2 days and a total of 7 hours on the phone with Cingular customer service to get the bill issue resolved. It also took my buying 2 different new phones in the office...then finally a 3rd one, creating an entire new account and an argument on whether I was going to renew my contract for 2 more years before this was resolved. DO NOT USE CINGULAR!!!!!!!!!!!1
Aleks United States/FL/Gainesville [Oct 07, 2006]
Cingular is the worst carrier ever. I have had to call them numberous times, send several defective phones back and I still have no service. Every time I try to make a call when I am in Gainsville my phone says "network unavailable" or "call ended". When people call me all they get is my voicemail. I dont even get a missed call on my phone. I talked to customer service and they insist that its my phone and that I need to get a new one even though this phone is less than a year old. Anyone who is thinking of getting cingular please dont. Stick to Verizon or Sprint!
Kimi United States/Missouri/St. Louis [Sep 06, 2006]
I've been a cingular customer since before it was cingular (1992). The customer service is now just as horrible as the reception. I live in a suburb south of st. louis and they claim I should have NOOOO problems becuase the area is green, now I am on the 5th phone and am stuck with it for two more years!! So much for loyalty to customers
